Tochigi_Ashikaga city

I am an English guide in charge of
Ashikaga City.

Below is the sightseeing spot I provide the guiding service.

Ashikaga City:
Ashikaga City, located about 80 kms north of Tokyo, is not so well-known even among the Japanese as compared with the name of Ashikaga shogunate clan who ruled Japan during the Muromachi era(1336~1573). Their ancestors had lived in this area from 1082 as local samurai lords until their descedents moved to Kyoto as shoguns. Bannaji Temple, originally built as a samurai house in 1137 but renovated as a temple in 1196. You will see remains such as moat and gates of a samurai house and will learn about a suprising story behind this renovation. Nearby this temple there is Ashikaga Gakko, the oldest university(no exisitng records show the foundation date prior to 1410) in Japan. Besides temples there are shops selling famous Ashikaga’s uniquely patterened silk fabrics and a few traditional Japanese restaurants. You can opt to wear kimonos and swords to stroll through this old town for 90 minutes. 20 minute walk to west you wil find Orihime Shrine on a hill, which lights up after sunset. Furthermore, one JR station away there are Kurita Museum Park and Ashikaga Flower Park. The former carries outstanding collections of Imari and Nabeshima porcelains.

My personal information

For the first 3 years since I became a Natiional Government Licensed Guide Intrepreter in 2012, I worked as an interepreter in business scene becuase of my business experiences in oil& chemical import and trading and international business administration for a silicon wafer manufacrturing corporation. I worked in NYC for a total of 8 years and then 2 years in Singapore. Through these global experiences I enjoyed both different cultures and friendships with a lot people. Business and conference organizanizers , after business engagement , started to ask me for conducting attenndees short tours before their departure. I have started to enjoy guiding because it helps boost cultural exchanges. In addition guiding requires walking which helps improve my health as well. I hope you enjoy cultural exchange with Japanese through my guiding tour.
