Welcome to my page

I am an English guide

in charge of Shirakawa-go.

Below is the sightseeing spot I provide the guiding service.

Shirakawa-go is located in the northwestern part of Gifu Prefecture. It is a historic district showcasing the traditional architectural style called “Gassho-zukuri. ”Gassho-zukuri means ”built like hands in prayer,” as the farmhouses’ steep thatched roofs resemble hands clasped in prayer. The gassho roof has a slope of about 60 degrees thus allowing snow to slide off the roof quickly. Listed as a World Heritage Site in 1995, this village is an excellent example of a traditional way of life to survive the harsh conditions in an area of heavy snowfall.

Shirakawa-go is one of the most popular destinations for foreign tourists. Ogimachi, Shirakawago’s largest village, and main attraction make a good day trip from Takayama or a stop on the bus journey between Takayama and Kanazawa. Special illumination events on selected Sunday and Monday evenings in January and February attract plenty of tourists.
Access: a 50-minute bus ride from Takayama / a bus from Kanazawa is available
