Mt.Koya, mountain cider forest tour
Mt.Koya is located south part of Osaka, belonging to Wakayama prefecture. It takes about 2 hours by train from Osaka. It is characterized by Buddhism sanctuary place 800 meters high mountain with deep cedar trees forest. In 9th century, prominent Buddhist named Kukai developed this area as a sacred place after coming back to Japan from study tour in China. Mt.Koya is designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site in 2004 with the background of sacred Buddhism culture.
In the last pilgrim street, named Okunoin, more than 200 thousands unique gravestones are observed as well as mausoleum of monks Kukai. Visitors can feel atmosphere of spiritual Buddhism history dating back to 10th centuries.
Having overnight at inns run by temple, called Shukubo, is great experience to traditional Japanese style.
